Universal privacy policy
Privacy and data use.
Effective and last updated: August 27, 2026
This policy applies across WERDTLA Action, including current and archived campaigns. WERDTLA is the action platform of the Downtown Homeowners Alliance. Each action also provides a short notice explaining what it collects and why before you submit.
Information we collect
Depending on the action, we may collect:
- Identity and contact information, such as your name and email address.
- Campaign responses, including the options you choose, your role, city or community, personal story, and the message or letter created from your responses.
- Consent and communication preferences, including whether you separately opt in to future communications.
- Campaign and technical records, such as the action you completed, submission date and time, a receipt or document identifier, and basic security or server logs.
How we use information
We use information to administer and document an action, create letters or other campaign materials you request, measure and report campaign participation, deliver materials to public officials when an action says we may do so, maintain the site, prevent abuse, respond to requests, and comply with law.
Submitting an individual action does not enroll you in future campaign or organizational communications. We use your information for future communications only when you separately select that optional choice, or when a limited transactional message is needed to complete or respond to your request. You may withdraw that opt-in at any time.
When information is shared
We may share information with service providers that host or operate WERDTLA Action; with the government office, policymaker, or delivery recipient identified by an action; when required to comply with law or protect rights and safety; or as part of an organizational transition where appropriate safeguards apply.
WERDTLA does not sell or rent personal information.
Campaign reporting
We may publish or share totals and other aggregated campaign information that does not reasonably identify an individual. We do not publish your name, email address, or personal story on the public action archive unless we separately ask and receive your permission.
How long we keep information
We retain campaign records for as long as reasonably needed for advocacy, reporting, accountability, legal obligations, and maintaining the history of an action. We may then delete or de-identify them. Communication preferences may be retained until you withdraw consent and for a limited period afterward to honor that choice.
Your choices and requests
You may ask to access, correct, or delete personal information associated with an action, or withdraw a future-communications opt-in. We will not discriminate against you for making a privacy request. To make a request, use the contact method published on werdtla.com and identify the WERDTLA Action campaign involved. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request.
External sites and embedded content
Actions may embed Instagram posts or link to news outlets, government forms, and other external websites. Those services may receive standard technical information when their content loads or when you follow a link, subject to their own privacy policies. Information entered on a government website is governed by that office’s policies and may be subject to public-records laws.
Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal information. No internet service can guarantee absolute security, so please avoid including highly sensitive information in an open-response field.
Children
WERDTLA Action is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as our campaigns or practices change. The date above shows when the current version took effect. Material changes will be posted here.
